Dane Stogner - 2014 Animation Reel from Dane Stogner on Vimeo.

Dane Stogner animation reel. I stumbled upon this animator's reel and thought it merited a viewing. Yes, it is this guy's self-promotion, but we feature a wide array of animation on this site and this is quality stuff. While we like to give independents an airing, it's important to remember that the big guns at the major studios also are just people who work hard and are proud of their animation, too. Just focusing on independents would miss some of the best animators out there, and there's no reason to do that - we want to understand all of the animation, not just the little guys trying to breakthrough.

Dane Stogner is an animator who works on big DreamWorks Animation projects such as "How to Train Your Dragon 2," "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," "Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury" and "Megamind." Those are just the highlights, he's been helping his studio bang out projects for a full decade now.

As he stated on his page:
A selection of shots that I animated on "How to Train your Dragon 2", "Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury", "Megamind", "How to Train Your Dragon", and "Madagascar 3"
I'm posting this for a couple of reasons. First, these animators behind the scenes are working stiffs like everyone else and they never get enough credit. It's easy to say, "Oh, it was ok, but it was kind of poofy" (kind of my reaction to "Megamind," come to think of it) or something like that, but working up world-class animation is hard, and these guys merit some of the recognition that usually only goes to the studio and the lead voice actors. We wouldn't see anything up there without them, the screen would be blank, or at least what we see wouldn't be as good.

Second, there is some really cool animation in here, nicely tied together, that you may not have seen. The "How to Train Your Dragon" shots are nothing short of spectacular.

Keep up the good work, Dane Stogner, and all you animators.
