Animation of Gene Wilder on Gene Wilder."

This insightful and thought-provoking animation from Blank on Blank at PBS Digital Studios has actor Gene Wilder ("Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein") reminiscing about key points in his life before an audience.

Wilder was one of the top stars of the 1970s and 1980s. As he mentions, the film industry changed in such a way that acting in movies became less attractive over time.

The animation is heavily stylized, which is appropriate for such an iconic personality, and he manages to drop a few names which spice things up.

The central role of his mother in his decision to act is emphasized. Also, he makes some observations about acting in general and reveals a surprising contribution that he made to "Willy Wonka."

It sounds as though the analysis he mentions going through was worth every single penny.

Fans of Gene Wilder might also be interested in looking up his autobiography, "Kiss Me Like a Stranger."
