"Ernest & Celestine" is lovable animation.
Ernest & Celestine Coming Out on Blu-Ray!
"Ernest & Celestine" is a wonderful animation from France which scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. We previously talked about it here, where we have the trailer. In brief, "Ernest & Celestine is about a mouse and a bear who run into each other and not only learn to live together to survive but develop a deep attachment despite the disapprobation of society.
The animation in "Ernest & Celestine" is fantastic. It looks like a watercolor and is perfect for this childlike tale of innocence. The animators have gone in a completely different direction than Hollywood, which has focused instead on realism and sharp, vibrant colors. This film instead goes for an impressionistic feel that mirrors the look of children's books. It has a very European feel, so if you want to expose your kids (or yourself) to something a little broadening, here's your chance.
Above is a special preview that the distributor, GKIDS Films, put out a year ago. Well, the wait is finally over and the film is coming out so that everyone can see it.
The film will be on a Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD and available June 17, 2014, from GKIDS, in conjunction with Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM). You may pre-book now.
"Ernest & Celestine" won the César Award for Best Animated Feature. It likely would have won the award for Best Animated Feature if not for a little film from Disney called "Frozen."
The film is based on the Belgian children's book series by Gabrielle Vincent. The English release features the voices of Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland"), Mackenzie Foy ("The Conjuring," "The Twilight Saga"), Oscar® nominee and Honorary Award Winner Lauren Bacall ("The Mirror Has Two Faces"), Oscar® nominee and two-time Golden Globe® winner Paul Giamatti ("Cinderella Man," "Sideways"), Oscar and Golden Globe® nominee William H. Macy ("Fargo," “Shameless”), Golden Globe® nominee Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”), Nick Offerman (“Parks And Recreation”) and Golden Globe® winner Jeffrey Wright ("Angels In America").
